Make the rest of your working life yours
Aug 04, 2026
Most of us learned how to build a career inside someone else’s company. You become good at what you do. Take on more responsibility. Build a reputation. Earn more money. Maybe lead a team. For a long time, that can feel like success. Then the title stops making up for the politics, pointless meetings and priorities you did not choose. You look at the next promotion, another reorganization or five more years inside the same system and think... Is this really what I want to keep doing? You can be done with corporate BS and still want to do ambitious work. You want purpose and fulfillment. You want to make good money. And you want more control over how you spend your days. That is the idea behind Midlife Founders. Becoming a founder is how you take control of the rest of your working life. For years, a company turned your expertise into a salary. Now your company can turn your time into freedom and independence. But only if you build it deliberately. But no one teaches you how to become a good founder. There is no school for it. Sure, there are isolated solutions. But when you look into them, many were developed by someone who does not understand your situation and expects you to jump through the same hoops you wanted to leave behind in corporate. Here’s what’s different for you. You have decades of experience, an established reputation and a life that already exists around your work. You also bring ways of thinking developed inside companies where marketing, sales, finance, technology and operations belonged to different people. As a founder, those decisions now belong to you. A thirty-something self-proclaimed expert has not lived what it means to climb the corporate ladder and then start over. Their advice often assumes you are willing to organize your entire life around the business. That is exactly the life many midlife founders decided to leave behind. There is something about midlife that changes your priorities. The next promotion matters less now. You want more peace, work aligned with your purpose and strengths, and people you genuinely enjoy working with. You want to feel like you have finally arrived instead of chasing the next promotion. You might have tried some of the guru advice, but... The content drained you. The messages felt unnatural. The leads never became consistent. Sales still depended on you chasing every opportunity. People showed interest but rarely bought. LinkedIn took too much time and gave too little back. Revenue arrived in unpredictable bursts. Or the business grew, but the workload grew even faster. It was slowly becoming another job you wanted to escape. Midlife Founders will help you understand why the advice failed and how to make the underlying principle work for you. Midlife Founders is designed to be a companion throughout your journey as a founder. This newsletter is where I will guide you through every phase of that journey. It does not matter exactly where you are. You may be just starting out, grinding for a couple of years without enough clients or earning your first inconsistent revenue. Whatever your stage, there will be something here to help you make the business work better and feel more aligned with you. The business has to work in the market. It also has to work for the person building it. Midlife Founders brings both together. Each edition will begin with a real situation midlife founders face. We will identify what is happening, explain why the usual advice often misses the point and show you a more useful way forward. You will learn how to create a steady flow of the right leads without becoming a full-time creator. How to make sales feel more natural and consistent. How to stop wasting energy on tactics that create activity without producing customers. And how to grow without recreating the pressure, politics and exhaustion you wanted to leave behind. Most importantly, we will look at the founder behind those decisions. Every founder brings different strengths, ambitions, responsibilities and ways of working. The rules of business remain the same, while the path to customers, revenue and growth has to work for the person building it. This matters even more in a solo business because the company cannot be separated from the founder. Your reputation affects the marketing. Your energy affects sales. Your strengths shape the work. The way you want to live influences the company you should build. I understand this transition because I have lived in both worlds. I worked inside seven startups, moved into corporate and eventually returned to building again. That is what I have done throughout my entire professional life. Since leaving corporate, I have helped tens of entrepreneurs gain momentum and create more consistent sales and marketing processes around their energy and business needs. I have shown them what I learned in the process and acted as the business partner who understands them and provides the growth feedback they need as midlife founders. I know which corporate strengths can become an advantage, which habits need to be unlearned and why copying somebody else’s path rarely produces a business that feels like yours. Midlife Founders will help you become capable of leading the whole company while giving you guidance from someone who understands the stage of life in which you are building it. The larger vision behind Midlife Founders is to create a real home for midlife founders. Practical education, experienced guidance, small founder groups and eventually retreats where you can work on the business alongside people in the same age range who understand the ambition, uncertainty and loneliness without needing the entire backstory. Being a solopreneur can be lonely, but you should not have to build the rest of it alone.
